Each year, Durham Miners Gala partners with Building Culture CIC to create a limited-edition art print in support of the Gala. Art and creativity have long been woven into the life of mining communities — from banner making and protest art to brass bands and the Pitmen Painters. This growing tradition gives artists the opportunity to respond to the rich visual history, objects and spirit of mining heritage.

Responding to the message ‘The Past We Inherit, The Future We Build’ artist Jeremy Deller and renowned banner maker Ed Hall have made a series of banners for the Gala this year.

The original artwork shapes the Gala merchandise, which this year includes T-shirts, enamel badges, tote bags and, for the first time, tea towels – objects that echo miniature banners. With their rich colours and iconic design, they make a distinctive collection.

All profits support the Gala.

Many thanks to Jeremy Deller and Ed Hall.

Produced by Building Culture in partnership with Durham Miners’ Gala and Redhills.
